Hope you are well. Please find attached some suggested activities for pupils.
Literacy: Look at the PowerPoint and discuss with your child ‘why plastic damages the environment?’
Focus on the key words that are highlighted and explain what these word mean for example; decompose, toxins etc…
Focus on ‘Why does plastic damage the ocean?’. Make a list of things that we could do to stop this? Look at the photos and discuss with your child what they can see. See worksheet.
Extended: Look at how you recycle in your own home. Help sort items that are going to the bin. Decide what bin they go into.
Numeracy: See worksheet and follow instructions. (Although worksheet states to go collecting litter around the school grounds, maybe you could explore your neighbourhood (It would be a great way to help clean up any rubbish) or if you are restricted to being at home, maybe have a look through your own recycle bin to complete the tally.
Sensory: This week’s cookery is fruity lollies. You can find recipe on www.bbcgoodfood.com. You can choose from ‘Cereal milk ice lollies’ or ‘Raspberry ice tea lollies’. If you are feeling that you would like to be experimental, try making up your own recipe by looking in your house to see what ingredients, you might have.

There are 8 wonderful pupils in Class 9 and they have settled brilliantly into the new school year. We are enjoying our busy timetable, full of fun activities which cover different aspects of the Key Stage 3 curriculum. Class 9 like attending active activities such as swimming, horse riding and yoga once a week. We also have just begun our community school link with St. Patricks High school in Keady where we work on shared learning activities with the students from Keady doing Art, Home Economics, PE, Music and Technology and Design. In Class 9 we have been working really hard on developing our numeracy and literacy skills and also developing our functional life skills such as setting the table, brushing our teeth, dressing ourselves and lots of other useful skills. We have been loving our class novel of ‘How to train your dragon’ and our weekly visits to the library. In science we have been studying the theme of ‘Space’. We have learned lots of facts about solar system and we even made a class rocket from recyclable materials.
