EYP thoroughly enjoyed the theme 'On the Farm'. We explored the names and sounds of different farm animals through role play, small world and listening activities during Roll Call. We had fun at the St. Patrick's Hooley and exploring the soap flakes in the sensory tray. In the run up to Easter, we were busy making our Easter bonnets and baskets. Angela and Michelle, the Speech and Language therapists have been doing a weekly Speech Group with us which has been both motivating and engaging. Now we look forward to a lovely Easter break with our families.
From the beginning of January, our new topic in EYP has been Winter and People Who Help Us.
We have been lucky enough to have had real life experiences and been able to explore the ice and snow in our playground. The role play area has been set up as a Hospital and a Fire Station. There has been particular interest in dressing up as Firefighters, helping to rescue people and use water to put out fire.
We complete a daily sensory circuit when the pupils arrive to school which helps to improve their readiness to learn and on Friday's we have foot and hand massages along with a virtual assembly from the Junior school classes. The pupils have time allocated each day for them to access their Happiness Boxes, which are filled with a range of highly preferred items.
All the boys had a very magical Christmas in EYP. On Tuesday 8th December, Santa came to visit as we watched a video of him being dropped off to Lisanally in our school mini bus!! He gave us a big wave from a safe distance and shouted ‘ho ho ho’. Santa also left us a lovely present. We have enjoyed visiting Santa’s Grotto which is set up in the Primary area. In our classroom, we have a range of exciting play activities, we were busy being Santa’s Little Elves from designing, building and wrapping presents to putting the decorations on the Christmas tree. We also used ribbon to measure the height of ourselves which we have put into a Christmas bauble to hang on our tree at home. On Thursday 10th December, we all had lots of fun during our Christmas Play Day. Throughout December, we worked really hard practising being little lambs for our virtual Nativity.
Welcome to the Early Years Project for the academic year 2020/2021. Our EYP consists of two groups, a morning group and an afternoon group. Our morning class has 5 pupils and our afternoon class has 4 pupils, all aged between 3 and 4 years old. Our class teacher is Miss Gilbert and our classroom assistants are Haleigh and Mallaidh.
The Early Years Project is a fun-filled way for young pupils to learn together through play and develop their functional abilities. We aim to have a nurturing classroom where the boys and girls feel safe, secure and have a love for learning. We are provided with many opportunities to learn and play from a wide range of activities that involve indoor and outdoor play.
EYP is a very pleasant and fun learning environment and we hope you enjoy looking at our class photos that illustrate some of our daily activities.
