At the end of February, 17 students from VTU 1 & 2 went on a 3 day, 2 night residential to Shannagh-More. The group participated in a wide range of activities including, Zip Line, Archery, Low Ropes Course, Leap of Faith, Canoeing, Orienteering, Night Time beach Walk & of course a visit to Newcastle!

As you can see everyone had a super time and faced many fears. Year on year our experience at Shanngh-More is nothing but excellent from the Activity Leaders to Kitchen Staff. With lots of tired but happy faces come the end of the stay. A particular thanks to all the staff who volunteered to go on the trip. Without their time and commitment such trips would not be possible!

We are already looking forward to planning next year's adventure!

Students in the VTU 2 are aged 16 to 18 years. • Make the transition from school to adult world as uncomplicated as possible.
  • Build self-esteem and produce a valued member of society.
  • Encourage sensible use of leisure/social time.

Two pupils in VTU 2 hold a prefect’s position. Each pupil participates in a work experience programme; pupils will attend work experience supported by school staff.

We love being in VTU 2, we work hard and have good fun.

We have lots of activities planned for this term in VTU3. In Art and Design we made Valentines treats to sell at Rushmere as part of the ‘Classy Crafts’ Young Enterprise Team. The girls in VTU3 are attending a ‘Fit For Her’ dance programme every Monday Morning. This helps us keep fit as well as learn new dance moves to our favourite music. This is proving very popular with all the girls, we especially love using the pom-poms. VTU3 attend Yoga every Monday afternoon, this is developing our body awareness as well as helping us relax our body and minds. As part of our LLW programme we are experiencing a shopping trip each week. We are enjoying Functional Reflexology as part of our weekly Sensory Programme. We attend City of Armagh Hotel gym every Friday and are learning how to use the machines and light weights. Our theme for the term is ‘Keeping our bodies and minds Healthy’. We have been looking at the Sugar content in different drinks and foods and have been exploring the different ways of being more physically active during the school day.

Welcome to VTU3’s Class Page! We have 6 Pupils in our class, 5 girls and 1 boy. Our teacher is Mrs. Niblock and our assistants are Ethel and Roisin. We enjoy a variety of multi-sensory and practical learning experiences. Our aim is to improve our life skills and the staff encourage us to be the best we can be.

We develop our communication skills through Music, ICT and Sensory experiences. In Learning for Life and Work we visit the School Café and we go shopping. We have Home Economics each week and we make lots of exciting dishes.

We develop our health, fitness and personal care by attending the Gym at Armagh City Hotel; going swimming; doing Yoga and reflexology. We take pride in our school and during Horticulture we plant seeds and vegetables and help with the recycling. In VTU3 we have a number of prefects and we have special jobs to do around the school. We also have the Head Girl, Eimear, in our class.
