Welcome to VTU 2. Our class has four girls and six boys that are within KS5. In our class pupils are supported to build on the skills acquired in their primary experience by accessing the full NI Curriculum which is delivered in appropriate and engaging ways using new interactive technology, resources, and classroom practice.
In VTU 2 teaching and learning activities focus on six areas of learning: Social and Leisure, Independent Living, Accredited Programmes, Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities (TSPCs), Social and Emotional and Physical Education. Activities are differentiated to ensure that all pupils are supported to develop skills in each of these areas in the most accessible and appropriate way. Learning opportunities are created for pupils based on their strengths and interests as we believe education must develop every child’s personality, talents, and abilities to the full (Article 29).
In VTU 2 we aim to empower all pupils to be the best they can be and to make informed and responsible decisions throughout their lives. The learning opportunities provided will support the young people in our class to develop as individuals, contributors to society and the environment. In line with this, pupils explore and experience the following subjects: Environment and Society, Learning for Life and Work (LLW), Religious Education and The Arts.
This year, VTU 2 have enjoyed participating in Lisanally’s Café as part of developing key independent and employability skills whilst completing The CCEA Occupational Studies modules in Hospitality.
