Through Home Economics we inspire and encourage our pupils to learn about food, good nutrition and the foundations of a healthy and successful life. Each teacher is responsible for helping their class enhance their practical skills in food choice and preparation.
This helps pupils to make better decisions about what they eat and how they live, while appreciating how those choices impact on both mental and physical health. Home Economics gives young people skills and practical knowledge that will stay with them for life.
In the Primary department this term the focus has been on basic practical life skills, like buttering their toast at break, whisking and stirring. They have also focused on basic hygiene for food preparation such as washing and drying their hands independently.
In the Senior department, we have been working on the theme of ‘Where in the World’. Many classes have been looking at foods that different countries eat. Classes have cooked and baked a range of different cuisines from Spicy curries to sweet cookies. There have been some fabulous dishes to sample.
